This practice-based seminar is situated in the Master in Critical Studies program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, but open to all who are interested.
This Open Study Session is titled urgewald + Actiwitchm – economic origins of the climate crisis and how to put a hex on extractivism, and is organized by the students Philip Neuberger, Carlotta Partzsch, and Mario Strk.
What is the connection between the figure of the witch and the roots of extractivist economy? After all, she was the one who tore out the hedges between the newly enclosed fields. For this, we question texts by feminist thinkers and introduce the NGO urgewald, which uncovers the network of roots that lies beneath today’s extractivist financial flows and fuels the climate crisis.
